Fight scene, anyone?
Don walked into class a little later than usual. Class will still buzzing about the first day of auditions, but Don was displeased.

"QUIET!" he screamed at them, voice echoing throughout the theatre, "It's time for day two of auditions!"

The bustle died quickly, and Don walked to center stage in complete silence. It was good to have that kind of command on a live audience again, so he let the silence last for a couple of painful moments.

"After so many of you chickened out of the auditions for the leads," he said through gnashing teeth, glaring at the students, "I'm hoping that this next day of auditions will be more successful. I think I recall the characters of Mercutio and Tybalt being more popular any-who."

He passed out the scene:

Tybalt:
Gentlemen, good den; a word with one of you.

Mercutio:
And but one word with one of us? Couple it with something, make it a word and a blow.

Tybalt:
You shall find me apt enough to that sir, an you will give me occasion.

Mercutio:
Could you not take some occasion without giving?

Tybalt:
Mercutio, thou consortest with Romeo.

Mercutio:
Consort? What, dost thou make us minstrels? An thou make minstrels of us, look to hear nothing but discords. Here's my fiddlestick, here's that shall make you dance. Zounds, consort!

to Kon, Tatsuki, Rukia, Renji, Ichigo, Hirako, Ikkaku, and Mizuiro hurriedly.

"Since there is an even number of you I have picked out your scene partners to prevent the problems that occured in the last audition. I would prefer it if you do the scene with more than one person, and doing so will give you a better shot at the role! If you want this role that badly, then you will be enthusiastic about it and work hard!"

Don smirked proudly, impressed by his own genious. This would force people to audition instead of volunteering themselves.

"The (first) pairings are:

Tatsuki & Hirako
Kon & Renji
Rukia & Ichigo
Ikkaku & Mizuiro

With the first person as Mercutio and the second person as Tybalt."

Don then stepped into the wings, motioning for the first pair to begin. But when he heard some groans coming from the group, he added without turning to face them, "I know that almost all of you would prefer the role of Mercutio to that of Tybalt, and that's just another reason to pair up with one other person - so you get the chance to audition for the role of Mercutio. That or you'd better make a damn impressive Tybalt. I chose the pairings the way I did so that the people who only chose Mercutio get the chance to audition for that role."

He laughed in a booming voice before turning to finally face them all again. "BOHAHAHAHAHA!!! Lights, camera, action!"

((Jump in whatever. You can start the first pairings then start up another one whenever you want. The more pairings, the better! ^_^))

Tatsuki read through the scene, glad that at least it would be short. Her lips moved along with her lines, working their way around he words so that she didn't trip on them once she was called upon to speak. And called upon she was, first no less.

Nerves were not something that Tatsuki would ever admit to feeling and as such the knots in her stomach were ignored. Her limbs felt stiff as she moved up to the front of the stage. That wouldn't do. She was supposed to look natural, look normal.

She started stretching as she waited for Hirako. There was a calming normalcy in the pulling of her muscles and it would loosen her body, making her less board like when she had to perform.

Hirako stared down at the script he'd just been handed. Tybalt... not bad. He actually liked both characters equally. And to tell the truth, Tybalt's part seemed like it would be a lot more interesting to play. He walked slowly to the front of the stage, ignoring the eyes that were obviously following him. It was just another feature of his weirdness that he seemed (for the most part, anyway) impervious to embarassment.

"Hey." He gave Tatsuki a small nod and then held up his script, making sure that the fact he was reading from it wasn't TOO obvious.

"Gentlemen, good den; a word with one of you." There was a slightly mischievous grin on his face as he said this. Class had been particularly boring that day, and he was aching for some action.
Arisawa Tatsuki: hmph owfistofthedragon on February 5th, 2006 08:05 pm (UTC)
Tatsuki pause mid-stretch, eyes rolling to the corner as her attention slowly pivoted on Hirako. "And but one word with one of us?" she asked, her eyebrow arching as she stared hard enough to drill holes through him.

She shifted, knees bending as her legs pulled up in anticipation of standing. She leaned one of her elbows on her knee, torso leaning forward slightly and head cocking to the side. "Couple it with something," she challenged, "make it a word and a blow." her lips kicked up into a malicious smirk.
realitys_childrealitys_child on February 6th, 2006 07:41 am (UTC)
Hirako smirked maliciously. He stood with arms crossed, one hand clutching the rolled up script. His narrow-eyed glare directed only at Tatsuki.

"You shall find me apt enough to that sir, an you will give me occasion."

Tatsuki snorted derisively as she rolled to her feet with the easy grace of a seasoned fighter who was well in tune with just what exactly her body was capable of.

“Could you not take some occasion without giving?” She asked, the words rolling from her tongue like they were her own rather than a script. There was a dare in her tone, dangling recklessly between herself and Hirako. Only they weren’t Tatsuki and Hirako to her anymore.

She’d read the play before coming to the audition, she knew what was going on; she knew who Mercutio was in this scene. Mercutio didn’t care right now, so neither did she.
realitys_childrealitys_child on February 7th, 2006 06:12 am (UTC)
Hirako gritted his teeth slightly. "Mercutio, thou consortest with Romeo."

The tone was cold and soft, making it even creepier.
Arisawa Tatsuki: hmph owfistofthedragon on February 7th, 2006 06:47 pm (UTC)
“Consort?” Tatsuki spat the question like it was a profanity, the temper that had been steadily simmering below her skin suddenly rising to a boil in scalding flash.

“What, dost thou make us minstrels?” The tone was incredulous, her lips pulling into a sneer. “An thou make minstrels of us, look to hear nothing but discords.” The anger had targeted Tybalt, goaded on by the man’s cool disconnection.

“Here's my fiddlestick,” the flow of words continued in a hot headed rush, hand rising and settling with a chilling crack of knuckles in a solid fist as she advanced on him “here's that shall make you dance.” Her fist flew out, connecting to Tybalt’s jaw with a resounding crack.

“Zounds, consort!” She challenged recklessly, livewire adrenalin pumping through her tensed muscles, barely managing to restrain herself from hitting him again before he could react.

"Gwah!" Hirako wasn't expecting the punch. He was getting nervous as she kept getting closer, but he didn't know that she was SERIOUS. This was an audition for goodness sakes! That crack rather worried him as well. Oh well, he couldn't lose his composure right now. And there was always time to nurse the inevitable bruise later.

Dropping the script, he quickly drew a metal ruler out of his back pocket and struck a stance like it was a sword. He was starting to wish that he HAD stolen a shinai out of the kendo club's dojo. He was also out of lines... the only thing he could do was defend himself from another assault by Tatsuki before the teacher finally told them it was over.

"You are such opposites - mental prowess vs. brute strength! I loved it!" Don proclaimed excitedly.

Sliding over and leaning toward Hirako, he raised a brow and whispered, "It was so real... she has no motive for hitting you in real life, right? Maybe some kind of jealousy about a another girl...?" Don always loved to hear juicy gossip, but squeezing it out of these students proved to be very difficult.
realitys_child: not so great: cherridandirealitys_child on February 10th, 2006 07:26 am (UTC)
Hirako shook his head fervently, trying to disippate some of the stars that still danced on his vision.

"N-no... I don't think she has any reason to dislike me... I hardly know her! Ouch..." Hirako rubbed his jaw slowly. "Um... is it okay if I head off to the nurse's to take care of this?"

He just hoped that if he got Tybalt, she wouldn't get Mercutio. Else he'd probably end up in the hospital after the play...
Arisawa Tatsuki: hmph owfistofthedragon on February 13th, 2006 10:53 pm (UTC)
The shock on Hirako's face had been enough to snap Tatsuki back to herself. The color drained from her face as the sting of her knuckles registered.

"I'm so sorry." She exclaimed in a rush, freezing in her steps rather than rushing to help him.

"I...I don't know what came over me." She couldn't explain it or make sense of it, she'd just gotten lost in the moment and carried away.

"Are you ok?"
Kojima Mizuirothe_lady_killer on February 4th, 2006 12:04 am (UTC)
Mizuiro was surprised to see that he had been paired up with Ikkaku. He couldn't imagine a weirder pairing; he was admittedly one of the most effeminate guys at school, and Ikkaku was... well, one of the rowdiest.

In any event, he didn't mind. Mizuiro was here to have fun, and he wasn't going to let an awkward pairing stop him.

He drew himself to his full height and began the speech (which, being an avid literature student, he had already memorized).

"Gentlemen, good den; a word with one of you."
斑目一角 Madarame Ikkakuno__hair on February 4th, 2006 03:45 am (UTC)
When Ikkaku wanted something, he'd do anything for it. Even if that anything included being paired up with some...kid. Who was he anyway?

And he wanted to be Mercury...Mercutio...

In character...in fuckin' character.

He smirked over at his partner, his words oozing dislike. "An' but one word with one of us?" Ikkaku stepped closer to the smaller boy, looming over him almost mockingly. "Mix it with somethin', make it a word an' a blow."
Kojima Mizuirothe_lady_killer on February 4th, 2006 04:45 am (UTC)
Mizuiro was slightly irritated by the way Ikkaku loomed over him, oozing a sense of superiority. Whether or not it was just for the sake of acting, it irked Mizuiro greatly. It wasn't his fault that he was short, he thought, cursing his genes.

Drawing himself up to his full height, Mizuiro's eyes gleamed in a manner that was almost unearthly. Not backing down or flinching whatsoever, Mizuiro's voice deepened, and he crooned in a threatening tone.

"You shall find me apt enough to that sir, and you will give me occasion."
斑目一角 Madarame Ikkakuno__hair on February 4th, 2006 12:22 pm (UTC)
Alright, there was nothing at all scary about this little guy. Sure, Ikkaku knew a few short guys that could kick ass in a bad way, right now this wasn't about fighting. This was about...mocking this kid, and doing it well.

He stepped back, but slowly so that the other would know that it wasn't because he was remotely scared. "Could y'not take some occasion without givin'?" he replied with a sneer.
Kojima Mizuirothe_lady_killer on February 4th, 2006 01:08 pm (UTC)
Mizuiro had to admit that this guy knew how to act as Mercutio and was doing it well. The sneer, the condescending tone... all of it matched Mercutio's personality perfectly.

Mizuiro wasn't sure how good of a Tybalt he was compared to the rest of the auditioners, but he wanted to give this his all. He raised an eyebrow, cocked his head, and hissed without losing an ounce of vindictiveness in his voice.

"Mercutio... thou consortest with Romeo."
斑目一角 Madarame Ikkakuno__hair on February 4th, 2006 03:27 pm (UTC)
Did this guy actually dislike him, or something? There was something angry and accusing in his tone, and Ikkaku hoped it was just approprate acting.

"Consort?" he snorted loudly, before continuing. "What, dost thou make us minstrels? An thou make minstrels of us, look to hear nothing but discords." With this Ikkaku let the grin slip off his face.

What, fuck. He needed a fiddle- wait, no. A sword. Was he supposed to pretend? Where was the purple dinosaur to help him with this?

Rather than feel like an idiot as he pretended to hold a sword he slipped off his belt and swung it around. "Here's my fiddlestick, here's that shall make you dance. Zounds, consort!"

This was actually worse than pretending to have a sword. Fuck.
Kojima Mizuirothe_lady_killer on February 5th, 2006 01:43 am (UTC)
Mizuiro had to work very hard to keep himself from breaking out with laughter at the sight of the makeshift sword - which just happened to start drooping in a very unthreatening manner. Taking advantage of the many years of fencing his parents had forced him through, Mizuiro snatched a yardstick from one of the girls in the class who was measuring cloth for the costumes, then pointed it directly at the skinhead without losing any focus.

As the audience around them began clapping, Mizuiro returned the yardstick to the girl gratefully, then turned to Ikkaku and smiled brightly. "It was really fun acting with you, sempai!"
斑目一角 Madarame Ikkakuno__hair on February 5th, 2006 06:07 am (UTC)
Alright, he could see how it was funny. Belts normally made crappy swords, yeah. So he grinned, but it was lop-sided sort of grin. He didn't like feeling like a fool, and who else but a fool would've used their stupid belt as a sword?

By the way this kid was smiling, though, he didn't hate him, which was good. Relatively. "Hey, same here." Yeah, it had been fun. Playin' this Mercutio guy wouldn't be too bad, if he made it. "You were damn good, kid."

"Bravo, Bravo!" Don cried, applauding the boys, "Excellent acting from the both of you! Great improvisation!"

This second set of auditions were turning out better than Don had expected, and he was growing excited about the show once again.

((I knew you guys would be good together! ^_^))

Rukia as Mercutio? Perplexed, Ichigo scratched his head (still ridiculously embarrassed about the whole balcony scene thing the other day), and had the good sense to at least be grateful the scene wasn't as unbelieavably awkward. That, and Tybalt was a badass. Brown eyes slanted toward Rukia, one hand in the pocket of his tight black jeans.
Kuchiki Byakuya: byakuyayourtaichou on February 7th, 2006 09:44 am (UTC)
Byakuya was bored. All work and no play... wait, the auditions. What a pun. He watched as the scripts were passed out. The play was well-talked about, and his interest was peeked at the name of Mercutio. He seemed like the perfect bad-ass.

But his acting skills weren't that polished. It's an everyday thing, speaking in front of people or whatnot, but the actual acting. That was something to ponder about.
faux_paw on February 7th, 2006 09:52 am (UTC)
Perusing the scene carefully, Kon nodded absently as Kanonji-sensei went on. This would be great. He knew exactly what he would--

RENJI???

Kon froze. His ego still stung from the last debacle. Eyes narrowing, he steeled himself for his scene.
